Goodbye to A.R.
Due to budget cuts, our school will no longer be participating in the Accelerated Reader Program. Although your child will no longer take AR or STAR tests, he/she will still have specific reading goals. Without AR, students will have more flexibility to read books that interest them. The Media Center will also continue to label books by Lexile levels, to assist students with checking out books. Please continue to make sure your child reads at home each night for 30 minutes. As we begin to phase out of AR, your child will have the following goals for this marking period:
1. Read a biography or autobiography and take an AR test by Nov. 23 (this will be the last AR test for the year!)
2. Create a book talk on a fictional book by Dec. 16
3. Create a cereal box on a fictional book by Jan. 18
Detailed directions on book talks and cereal boxes will be sent home at a later date. As a reminder, students with internet access at home are also encouraged to log on to Teen Biz from the school website to read nonfiction passages and complete activities to improve their reading skills.
